Charity groups expand sites, hint at announcements | Community Spirit

2nd Sunshine Place site hosts event Friday   

Sun Prairie’s charitable organization hub will hold an event Friday kicking off a fundraiser and celebrating a new space down the street.

Sunshine Place will hold a community and news event at 11:30 a.m. to celebrate the opening of the new location for Sunshine Supper, the charity branch providing a free weekly meal for those who might go without.

Sunshine Place is the city’s nucleus for multiple charity operations like the food pantry, Red Barn thrift store and Joining Forces for Family cooperation.

The new spot for Sunshine Supper, 1632 West Main St., Suite 3, is just around the corner from the 18 Rickel Road hub.

In a news release Tuesday, organizers said the expansion is needed because many more of Sun Prairie’s neighbors are in need, and the second building offers a large, permanent home for Sunshine Supper and will allow programs to expand in the future.

Instead of a groundbreaking, the group is calling it a “wall-breaking” ceremony, since the space doesn’t need a building constructed but are opening doors at an existing location.

Sunshine Place representatives said refreshments and sandwiches will be offered after the announcements.
