Royal Oaks Elementary students are running laps Friday to raise funds for school programming that reinforces the benefits of healthy, active lifestyles, according to a release.
The Rocket Run, now in its third year, is a volunteer-based fundraiser for the Royal Oaks School Community Organization, event organizers said. The ROSCO complements the Sun Prairie Area School District’s Wellness Policy.
Students will put skills they learned during the first month of school to work during Friday’s run, including proper running and pacing techniques, how to take their pulse and the health benefits of running, according to the release.
The entire student body will run for 20 minutes and complete as many laps as possible, organizers said.
According to the release, the event is expected to raise over $20,000 with students running over 600 cumulative miles.
