'Cotton Patch Gospel' play opens Friday at Cardinal Heights

A Sun Prairie Civic Theatre production begins this weekend. 

The "Cotton Patch Gospel" will stage five shows at the Cardinal Heights Upper Middle School. The first performance is Friday at 7:30 p.m. 

The Sun Prairie Civic Theatre said the play has "a unique storytelling style that reminds us what is the core of Christmas."

Performances include 7:30 p.m. shows Saturday, and continue Dec. 12 and 13 at the middle school. A matinee show is offered Dec. 14 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are available at Beans 'n Cream, 345 Cannery Square, online or at the door. 

Holiday season to come alive in downtown Sun Prairie

Downtown Sun Prairie is welcoming visitors to their annual holiday events to celebrate the start of the holiday seasons.

On Friday at 5:15 p.m., the 99th annual Holiday Tree Lighting and Fire Truck Parade. The tree lighting took place at the Sun Prairie Historical Museum and the Parade made its way down the 100 and 200 blocks of E. Main St.

Activities to look forward to throughout the weekend include free horse drawn wagon rides and visits with Santa.

Carriage rides will take place on Nov. 29 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. They will leave from the front of the Sun Prairie Historical Library and Museum, 115 E. Main St. Kids can bring their wish list to Santa at the Crosse House, 133 W. Main St., on Nov. 29 and Dec. 6 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

VFW's free Thanksgiving meal in its 15th year

For its 15th year, the Sun Prairie VFW  will host a free Thanksgiving meal to include mashed potatoes, stuffing, ham, turkey, desserts and more. 

The VFW's annual event has grown since it began in 1999 feeding about 100 people. The organization plans to feed between 800 to 1,000 people at this year's feast, according to a Sun Prairie Star report. ... Read More

Sun Prairie to hold Halloween Spooktacular party

The Sun Prairie Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its Halloween Spooktacular on Thursday, Oct. 30 from 1-5 p.m.

There will be trick-or-treating and a chance to win prizes!
