Council approves Aldi's plan, reduces traffic fee

Last week the Sun Prairie City Council  approved a plan for a new Aldi grocery store to be on Bunny Trail and reduced the traffic impact fee the company will be assessed, according to a Sun Prairie Star report. 

Aldi expects construction to begin the first week of August and the store to be completed in 2015.

New fitness apparel, training store to open in fall

A new fitness shoe and apparel store is scheduled to open in Sun Prairie this fall. 

Fleet Feet Sports Madison owners Matt & Jessica Anderson announced in June that they would open a second store in the Shoppes at Prairie Lakes shopping center at 2828 Prairie Lakes Drive. 

The Andersons said the new Fleet Feet should open in September. Fleet Feet offers sporting goods like apparel, athletic shoes and training. 

"With this expansion, Fleet Feet Sports will be accessible to even more people in the greater Madison area so we can share our passion for serving customers and encouraging the fitness lifestyle," the Andersons said in a news release. 

No refuse collection on July 4

Due to the Independence Day holiday, there will be no refuse and recycling pickup on Friday, July 4.

Goodwill to open store in Prairie Square shopping center

Goodwill Industries said it plans to open a store in the Prairie Square shopping center on McCoy Road in Sun Prairie later this year. 

Renovations on the existing building to house the new donation center and store will begin in May, Goodwill said on its website last week. 

Goodwill said it plans to hire 20 full- and part-time staff to work at the Sun Prairie location. 

The store is slated to open in early fall, according to the company. 

Sun Prairie residents with more than five items to donate can call for free home pick-up service beginning this month, according to the company. 

Stylist gets 'Manager of the Year' recognition

A Sun Prairie stylist has been recognized by her employer for exemplary work.

Nicole Zimmerman, manager of the Cost Cutters Hair Salon in Sun Prairie has been named one of three managers of the year among 50 salon managers in Southern Illinois and Northern Wisconsin, according to the Sun Prairie Star Wednesday.

Area coffee shops top local favorites poll

A coffee shop in downtown Oregon earned the top spot as a local favorite in a News 3 viewer poll. Firefly Coffeehouse was revealed as the winner Friday morning and shops in Janesville, Baraboo, Sun Prairie and McFarland made the top five among viewers.

Sun Prairie Walmart to hire 85 employees for new location

The Walmart in Sun Prairie will be hiring approximately 85 employees to work at the new Walmart location that is expected to open this winter, according to a release.

The store will be hiring both full- and part-time employees, said Sarah Voegeli, store manager.

“We are excited to add the first Walmart Supercenter to Sun Prairie and provide the community with a convenient, one-stop shopping experience for their grocery and merchandise needs,” said Voegeli. “The supercenter will bring additional quality jobs to the area with excellent advancement opportunities and great benefits.”

Applications will be accepted at a kiosk inside the existing location at 1905 McCoy Road from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays, according to the release. Applications will also be accepted online.
